The short answer
Among UK agencies that publish a price, B2B SEO retainers we found range from £1,500 to £15,000 a month. Where a site sits in that range depends on its size, the amount of content and how competitive the market is. Below about £1,000 a month, the hours available rarely cover strategy, content and technical work together.
The only way to compare properly is scope: how many pages a month, whether digital PR is included, what the reporting covers and what the contract terms are. A price without a scope is not a comparison.
Published retainers compared
We reviewed the websites of eight UK agencies that offer B2B SEO for our comparison of B2B SEO agencies, checked on 6 October 2026. Two showed a price.
| Agency | Price on site | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Gripped | £5,000 to £15,000 a month retainer range | B2B SaaS and tech growth agency: SEO within wider demand generation |
| B2B SEO Services (us) | From £1,500, £3,000 or £5,500 a month | B2B-only SEO packages, scope listed line by line |
| Breakout Media, MRS Digital, POLARIS, PUSH, SUSO Digital, Tiga | Not found on the pages reviewed | Pricing on request |
Two in eight is the finding worth noting. Most of the market asks you to book a call before naming a figure, which makes early comparison hard for a buying group that has to justify a budget.
What drives the cost of B2B SEO
| Factor | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|
| Size and state of the site | A 50-page site with clean code needs less technical work than 5,000 pages across several platforms |
| Amount of content | Pages and articles are the largest variable cost; more product lines or markets mean more to write |
| Competition | Outranking well-linked rivals and large publishers takes more digital PR than an uncontested niche |
| Markets and languages | Separate UK and US targeting adds research, content differences and hreflang work |
| Reporting depth | Joining Search Console, GA4 and the CRM into pipeline reporting takes set-up and ongoing work |

Retainer, project or consultant day rate?
| Model | Best for | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | Ongoing strategy, content, technical work and reporting | From £1,500 a month, monthly rolling |
| One-off project | A full audit, or a content sprint for one topic cluster | Full audit from £1,200; six-page sprint from £2,400 |
| Consultant day rate | Senior direction for a team that does the work itself | From £900 a day |
A retainer makes sense when the work is continuous. A project makes sense for a defined job. A consultant makes sense when your team has capacity but needs direction: see our B2B SEO consultant page.
What a low-cost retainer actually buys
Retainers are bought in time. As an illustration, assume an agency's time costs £100 an hour; your own supplier's rate will differ. At £500 a month that is five hours: enough for a monthly report and a few small fixes, not enough for a strategy, a well-researched page and link outreach as well.
| Monthly budget | Hours | What fits |
|---|---|---|
| £500 | 5 | Reporting and minor fixes |
| £1,500 | 15 | Technical fixes, a small keyword map and two well-made pages |
| £3,000 | 30 | Four pages, digital PR and pipeline reporting |
| £5,500 | 55 | Eight or more pages, multiple markets, developer sessions |
Be wary of very low prices that promise everything. Usually something gives: the content is unedited, the links are bought, or the reporting is a ranking export. Ask what exactly happens each month, and who does it.
