The sector
SEO for manufacturers, and how it differs from consumer product SEO
Manufacturers often have the most valuable content in B2B and the least visible. Specifications sit in PDFs, product data in a catalogue system, and expertise in the heads of application engineers.
Consumer product SEO sells a finished item to a shopper. Industrial SEO serves two people with different questions: a design engineer who needs to know whether a component meets a requirement, and a buyer who needs price, lead time and supplier approval. Neither is browsing.
Buying cycle
The manufacturing buying cycle: specified in, then bought for years
For components and materials, the decisive moment is design. An engineer researches options, requests data sheets, CAD files or samples, and specifies a part. Purchasing then issues a request for quotation, the supplier is audited and approved, and orders follow for the life of the product, sometimes for a decade. For capital equipment, the cycle runs from a business case through tenders and site visits, and can take a year or more.
Being found at the design stage is worth far more than competing on price at the quotation stage, when the specification may already name a competitor's part.
Search behaviour
How engineers and industrial buyers search
- By specification. Material, dimension, tolerance, rating: long, precise queries with very little volume and very high intent.
- By standard. ISO, EN, BS, ASTM or DIN numbers, and approvals such as ATEX or UKCA.
- By part number and cross-reference. Including competitors' part numbers, when looking for an equivalent.
- By application. “Seals for food processing”, “bearings for high temperature”: the problem, not the product name.
- By capability. For contract manufacturers: the process, material and location, such as “5-axis CNC machining titanium UK”.
Much of this demand is invisible in keyword tools because each query is rare. Together they make up most of an industrial site's valuable traffic, and they are answered by product data, not blog posts.
Constraints
Technical, channel and compliance constraints
- Certification claims. ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949 and product approvals must be stated exactly as certified, with scope and dates.
- Product marking. UKCA and CE claims, and declarations of conformity, must match the documents you hold.
- Distributor relationships. If you sell through distributors, your site must attract specifiers without undercutting channel partners. We agree what leads go where.
- Export controls and confidentiality. Some products, customers and applications cannot be described publicly. Defence and aerospace work in particular needs clearance before publication.
- PDF-locked data. Data sheets as PDFs only are hard to rank and hard to use. Moving the data into pages is usually the single biggest gain.
Example keyword set
Example keyword set for an industrial component maker
For an invented manufacturer of stainless steel fasteners:
| Buying stage | Example search | Page that should rank |
|---|---|---|
| Specification | a4-80 hex bolt m12 torque | Product page with full data table |
| Standard | iso 4017 bolt dimensions | Standard reference page linking to products |
| Application | fasteners for marine environments | Application page written with an engineer |
| Cross-reference | [competitor part number] equivalent | Cross-reference tool or table |
| Supplier | stainless fastener manufacturer uk | Capabilities and certifications page |

Proof
How we measure pipeline from organic search
We are a new agency and have no client case study we are allowed to publish yet. So instead of a borrowed success story, here is exactly how results will be measured on your account, and what a published case study will contain once a client approves one.
Measurement method, not a case studyThe format every future case study follows is on the case studies page: client context, the constraint, what we did, real metrics with dates, and what we would do differently.

FAQ
SEO for manufacturing: questions buyers ask
In manufacturing, usually yes. A specification search made ten times a month by design engineers can lead to a part being specified into a product that is built for years. We judge terms by the value of the buyer, not the size of the number.
Both. Engineers still want a PDF to download and file. But the data should also exist as a page, because pages rank better, load on a phone on the shop floor, and can link to related products and applications.
It need not. Your site can own technical and specification searches and pass purchasing enquiries to distributors. We agree the rules with you first, so that channel partners gain leads from your visibility.
Plan for three to six months before organic leads rise in a way your sales team notices, and six to twelve months for meaningful pipeline. Technical fixes and rewritten money pages can move sooner. New content on a site with little authority takes longer. We set the expected timeline for your site in the 90-day plan and do not promise a date we cannot control.
Our monthly SEO packages start from £1,500/month (Foundation), £3,000/month (Growth) and £5,500/month (Scale). Every price and what it includes is on the pricing page. There is no setup fee.
