SEO for SaaS companies that sell to businesses

The sector
Why B2B SaaS SEO is its own discipline, and how it differs from B2C
SaaS is the B2B sector where search does the most selling. Buyers can compare a dozen tools in an afternoon without speaking to anyone, so the pages they find do the work a salesperson once did.
Compared with consumer software, the differences are the team and the term. A consumer app is chosen by one person and can be dropped tomorrow. A B2B tool is chosen by a group, rolled out to a department and renewed annually. Our SaaS SEO agency page covers the service; this page covers how the sector's buying behaviour shapes the plan.
Buying cycle
The SaaS buying cycle: bottom-up discovery, top-down approval
Most B2B software now enters a company from below. A user has a problem, searches, signs up for a trial and shows a colleague. Weeks later the tool needs a paid plan, and a second cycle begins: a manager compares alternatives, IT asks about single sign-on and data residency, finance asks about pricing tiers.
A product-led tool at a low monthly price may complete this in days. A sales-led platform with an annual contract commonly takes one to several months. Either way there are two audiences, and a site that only speaks to the first loses the deal at approval.
Search behaviour
How SaaS buyers search
- Job-to-be-done searches. “How to automate invoice approvals” comes long before any product name.
- Category plus qualifier. The category with a team size, industry or platform: “for small teams”, “for agencies”, “for Shopify”.
- Comparisons and alternatives. “X vs Y” and “X alternatives” are searched by people with a shortlist open.
- Integration pairings. “Tool A Tool B integration” is a buying signal from someone checking fit with their stack.
- Review-site and AI-assistant checks. Buyers read G2 or Capterra and increasingly ask an AI assistant for a shortlist, so being described accurately there matters.
Constraints
Security, compliance and brand constraints on SaaS content
Approval-stage buyers search for security and compliance information: SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and data residency, single sign-on, uptime. A clear trust or security page answers them and ranks for brand-plus-security queries that otherwise send buyers to third-party sites.
- Only claim what you hold. Certifications and compliance statements must match your actual attestations and be approved by whoever owns security.
- Comparison pages must be fair and accurate. UK and EU rules on comparative advertising require comparisons to be verifiable and not misleading, and competitors' trade marks need care. We write comparisons that would survive the competitor reading them.
- Pricing has to stay current. A pricing page that disagrees with the product is a trust problem and a support cost.
Example keyword set
Example keyword set for a B2B SaaS product
Taking an invented expense-management tool as the example, a balanced keyword set looks like this:
| Buying stage | Example search | Page that should rank |
|---|---|---|
| Problem | how to track employee expenses | Guide with a free template |
| Category | expense management software for small business | Category or use-case page |
| Comparison | [competitor] alternatives | Alternatives page |
| Integration | expense software xero integration | Integration page |
| Approval | [your brand] pricing / security | Pricing and trust pages |

Proof
How we measure pipeline from organic search
We are a new agency and have no client case study we are allowed to publish yet. So instead of a borrowed success story, here is exactly how results will be measured on your account, and what a published case study will contain once a client approves one.
Measurement method, not a case studyThe format every future case study follows is on the case studies page: client context, the constraint, what we did, real metrics with dates, and what we would do differently.

FAQ
SEO for SaaS: questions buyers ask
For most B2B SaaS sites it is the comparison and alternatives pages, followed by integration pages. They are searched by people who already have a shortlist, so a small amount of traffic produces a large share of sign-ups. Guides matter, but they come after the pages that sit close to the decision.
Usually yes: documentation answers real searches and shows buyers the product is well supported. The risk is a help article outranking the page meant to sell. We keep docs indexable but link them clearly to the relevant product and use-case pages.
By tying the content plan to the release plan. New features and integrations get pages when they ship, and pricing, comparison and integration pages are reviewed on a schedule so they never contradict the product.
Plan for three to six months before organic leads rise in a way your sales team notices, and six to twelve months for meaningful pipeline. Technical fixes and rewritten money pages can move sooner. New content on a site with little authority takes longer. We set the expected timeline for your site in the 90-day plan and do not promise a date we cannot control.
The same published packages as all our work: from £1,500/month, with most SaaS teams choosing Growth from £3,000/month. See pricing.
