B2B SEO measurement
B2B SEO measurement: from search click to closed revenue
We connect Search Console, GA4 and your CRM so every organic lead keeps its source through to closed revenue, then report the numbers a board actually asks for.

The basics
Why rankings are the wrong KPI for B2B SEO
A ranking report shows where pages appear. It cannot show whether the people who click are buyers, whether they enquire, or whether sales can do anything with them.
In B2B the gap between a ranking and revenue is wide. A page can hold first place for a term searched by students and produce nothing. Another can sit fourth for a term searched fifty times a month by budget holders and open six-figure deals. Months pass between the first search and a signed contract, and the buyer returns through several channels along the way. Measuring B2B SEO properly means following the lead, not the click.
Measurement is set up in month one of every engagement, as part of our B2B SEO services. If you want the do-it-yourself version, our guide on how to measure B2B SEO ROI sets out the method step by step.
The model
The click-to-pipeline model
| Stage | Source | Question it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Impressions for buyer terms | Google Search Console | Are we visible for the searches that matter? |
| Clicks to money pages | Google Search Console | Do searchers choose us? |
| Leads | GA4 key events | Do visitors take the next step? |
| Sales-qualified opportunities | Your CRM | Are the leads any good? |
| Pipeline value and revenue | Your CRM | What is it worth? |
Each stage explains the next. Falling clicks with steady impressions point to titles and snippets. Steady clicks with falling leads point to the page or the form. Plenty of leads and few opportunities point to the wrong intent. That is what makes the model useful for decisions, not only for reports.
GA4
GA4 setup for B2B
- Key events for real conversions. Demo requests, trial sign-ups, enquiry forms, calendar bookings and email clicks, not page views.
- Consent handled properly. Analytics runs only after consent, so GA4 is treated as a consistent sample and the CRM as the source of truth for counts.
- Landing page and channel kept. Reports split by organic search and by landing page, so each money page has its own conversion rate.
- Internal and test traffic excluded. Your own team and form tests do not inflate the numbers.
CRM
CRM attribution fields
The break in most B2B measurement is between the form and the CRM: the lead arrives, but nobody records where it came from. We add hidden form fields and matching CRM properties so the source travels with the lead.
| Field | Example value | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| First-touch source | google / organic | Credits the channel that started the journey |
| Landing page | /your-service-page/ | Shows which page produced the lead |
| utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign | linkedin / social / launch | Separates campaigns from organic visits |
| Latest source before conversion | google / organic | Shows what brought them back to convert |
| Lead stage and deal value | SQL, £24,000 | Lets revenue be traced back to search |
The original source must never be overwritten when a lead becomes an opportunity, or closed revenue cannot be traced back. Lead stages themselves are defined with sales, as described on our B2B lead generation page.
Reporting
Board-ready reporting
A board needs four answers: what organic search produced, what it cost, whether the trend is up, and what happens next. The monthly report is built around them.
- Organic leads, sales-qualified opportunities and pipeline value, this month and trend
- Closed revenue from organic-sourced deals, over at least two sales cycles
- The pages and search terms behind those numbers
- Cost of the programme against pipeline and revenue produced
- What shipped, what is next, and anything not working, said plainly
Monthly reporting with a review call is included on every package. CRM-matched pipeline reporting is included from the Growth package; see pricing.
Pitfalls
Common B2B SEO attribution mistakes
- Measuring too soon. Deals close months after the first search; judge revenue over two or three sales cycles and report pipeline in the meantime.
- Last-click only. A buyer who found you through search and converted through a sales email still came from search. Pick a rule, state it and apply it consistently.
- Overwritten source fields. A CRM workflow that resets the source to “sales” when a deal is created erases organic's contribution.
- Counting every form. Job applications and supplier pitches are not leads; filter them before reporting.
- Using revenue instead of gross profit for ROI. Revenue flatters the channel; gross profit tells the truth.

How we measure pipeline from organic search
We are a new agency and have no client case study we are allowed to publish yet. So instead of a borrowed success story, here is exactly how results will be measured on your account, and what a published case study will contain once a client approves one.

FAQ
B2B SEO measurement: common questions
Capture the first-touch source and landing page on every form in hidden fields, store them on the contact and deal records in your CRM, and make sure they are never overwritten. Closed revenue can then be reported by source. Agree an attribution rule, such as first touch or first and last touch, and apply it consistently.
Google Search Console for visibility and clicks, GA4 for on-site conversions, and a CRM such as HubSpot or Salesforce that can store lead source on contacts and deals. A rank tracker helps with the agreed keyword set. No expensive attribution platform is needed to start.
Monthly for leads, opportunities, pipeline value and the work shipped, with a review call. Quarterly for revenue and return on investment, because deals take months to close. Weekly checks are useful after a migration or a major release, not as routine reporting.
By following a search visit through to revenue. GA4 records the lead, your CRM records what happened to it, and the monthly report shows organic leads, sales-qualified opportunities, pipeline value and closed revenue against what you paid us. If your CRM cannot store the lead source yet, fixing that is part of month one.
Once a month you get a report built from Search Console, GA4 and your CRM: organic leads, opportunities, pipeline value, the pages and terms behind them, what we shipped and what is next. It comes with a review call. You keep access to every data source, so you can check any number yourself.
Our monthly SEO packages start from £1,500/month (Foundation), £3,000/month (Growth) and £5,500/month (Scale). Every price and what it includes is on the pricing page. There is no setup fee.
